In support of the various League and collectively-bargained policies on conduct, integrity of the game, gambling, performance-enhancing substances and substances of abuse - enter and review content relating to appeals, hearings and historical data. Manage binders/files, including decision folders and hearing binders. Work with labor relations attorneys and department staff on key initiatives. Coordinate scheduling and preparation of materials and reports for meetings, hearings, seminars and symposia. Provide support for the Senior Vice President of Labor Policy & League Affairs.
Responsibilities
POLICY ADMINISTRATION
- Manage player and non-player violations of the Substances of Abuse (“SoA”), Performance-Enhancing Substances (“PES”) and Personal Conduct (“PCP”) policies. Maintain the internal data management system and files for players, league, and club employees. Preserve records for confidential policy matters and investigations. Collaborates and serves as a liaison to the NFL Players Association, Independent Administrator, Medical Director and Medical Advisor, NFL Security to effectively discuss, report and review policy violations and other related matters. Distribute policy documents to players, club executives, agents, NFLPA and other parties.
- Update, maintain, and distribute the Labor Policies (SoA, PES, PCP and gambling policies) to external and internal stakeholders. Collaborate with the Game Operations Department to include updates in the League Policies for Players handbook.
- Review and interpret NFL Security Reports related to player and non-player arrests, police reports, final dispositions, legal investigations, and other court documents. Draft timelines and criminal summaries for evaluation in disciplinary actions. Communicates arrests involving drug, alcohol and/or other prohibited substances under the Substances of Abuse Program to the Medical Director for potential enrollment into the Program.
- Maintain and update status reports with pertinent information related to player and non-player arrests, special investigations involving domestic violence and sexual assault, policy violations. Circulate reports to SVP (Conduct and Security), NFL Security group and internal colleagues on a weekly basis.
- Manage the Player Status Information system by sending detailed reports in response to club inquiries concerning policy violations for Free Agents and players that are the subject of active trade negotiations. Develop the new electronic Player Status Information system that will be housed on the League’s Football Information System (FIS) and designed to provide Clubs with direct, real-time access to player status information on NFL players.
- Participates in weekly meetings with the Medical Advisor’s office and NFL Security to discuss violations and arrests. Organizes the Drug Policies meetings, conference calls and other player policy meetings when necessary. Respond as necessary on behalf of the SVP to Club, League and NFLPA inquiries for information.
- Participates in weekly meetings with NFLIT, Medical Director and Advisor to provide pertinent information associated with the development of the new data management system (TeamConnect) and the NFL Drug Policies Contact Information Website. As a Subject Matter Expert (“SME”), participate in requirements gathering and testing by providing crucial feedback regarding content, workflows, design, and analytics. Continue to remodel, organize, and merge all policy files and documents from the Management Council legacy website to TeamConnect.
- Manage the timeline to distribute confidential Combine drug test results with Program Administrators. Prepare and distribute memos to all Clubs which include individual, confidential drug test letters for both the SoA and PES Programs. Circulate same to key internal colleagues.
Required Qualifications
- Degree from a four-year college or university
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of experience working in corporate environment or law firm with responsibility for the collection, maintenance and distribution of information relevant to employee policy violations, criminal charges and/or similar complex levels of information. Familiarity with policies governing employee-workplace conduct preferred.
- Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and demonstrate exceptional judgment, discretion and trustworthiness.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Exceptional business and legal writing, proofreading, l and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage competing and multiple tasks simultaneously.
