Our legal practice is seeking Summer Interns to join our boutique special education law firm at our lower Manhattan law office. Interns will provide essential litigation support to attorneys. Preferred candidates will be passionate about helping children with special needs and working with a team of dedicated attorneys, paralegals, and administrators to fulfill that mission. The Summer Interns will be joining our firm at an essential period in the annual special education cycle and will be assisting in the case-initiating activities of drafting and filing Ten Day Notices (TDNs) and Due Process Complaints (DPCs) for all our clients. The TDN gives the New York City Department of Education (DOE) notice of our clients’ claim the DOE failed to meet its statutory obligation of providing the clients’ child with a “free and appropriate education.” It also sets forth the parent’s intention to unilaterally place their child in a private educational setting and seek reimbursement of those costs from the DOE. The DPC alleges that the DOE violated the Individual with Disabilities Act and itemizes the relief that our firm will be seeking through the course of an Impartial Hearing. Essential Job Functions
