Job Description: Are you a recent bar taker or a third-year law student (3L) looking to embark on a fulfilling career in family law? If so, the Law Office of Erin Morse invites you to join our team as a Law Clerk. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside a talented group of professionals who are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of our clients.
Responsibilities:
Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough legal research on family law matters, including statutes, case law, and legal precedents, to support attorneys in case preparation.
Drafting Documents: Assist in drafting legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, and affidavits, while adhering to established formats and legal procedures.
Client Interaction: Interact with clients, witnesses, and opposing counsel professionally and empathetically while maintaining the highest standards of client confidentiality.
Case Management: Organize and manage case files, including maintaining accurate records, deadlines, and updates to ensure smooth case progression.
Court Support: Accompany attorneys to court hearings, depositions, and client meetings, and provide administrative support during these proceedings.
Legal Assistance: Assist attorneys in trial preparation, including preparing exhibits, witness lists, and trial notebooks.
Minimum Competency Expectations:
Legal Knowledge: A Juris Doctor (JD) degree (or in progress) and a strong understanding of family law principles and procedures.
Research Skills: Proficiency in legal research tools, such as Westlaw or LexisNexis, and the ability to analyze complex legal issues.
Writing Skills: Exceptional legal writing and communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and concise legal documents.
Team Player: Collaborative spirit and a willingness to work closely with attorneys and support staff.
Initiative: Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a desire to contribute to the success of the firm.
Professionalism: Exemplary professional conduct and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Adaptability: Willingness to adapt to a dynamic legal environment and learn quickly.
