I am hiring a summer law clerk. If you are interested in directly working with defending tenants from slumlords or actually suing slumlords, and also getting some experience helping nonprofits, this is for you.
Responsibilities
I have a growing caseload of residential tenants who need help dealing with problematic landlords. You will get firsthand experience working with clients with major legal needs involving housing and debt. Also, I represent a lot of small to mid sized nonprofit organizations who will need a lot of help in the current situation. I will also assign you to be a volunteer at the Tenant Assistance Project a couple of times a month.
Qualifications
I am looking for someone with a demonstrated commitment to dedicating at least part of their legal career to representing working class, low income, and moderate income people. You should want to be able to actually meet with clients, get their stories, and work on solving their problems using statutes, persuasion, and the courts. You don't have to be on law review or anything, but I am looking for hard workers who have an unrelenting passion for helping the "little guy." You can be a rising 2 or 3L. You will need your own laptop.
