The Career Development Office of the University of Virginia School of Law seeks to hire a Career Development Fellow. This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Assistant Dean for Career Development. The University of Virginia School of Law is consistently recognized as one of the top law schools in the country. The Law School’s Career Development Office is comprised of the Office of Private Practice, the Mortimer Caplin Public Service Center, and the Office of Judicial Clerkships. The Career Development Office enjoys working with the Law School’s exceptional students and is known for its ability to innovate in the career counseling space, to devise creative approaches to an evolving hiring landscape, and to help prepare law students for practice, including assisting in the cultivation of lawyers committed to professionalism, integrity and service. The extensive legal practice and career counseling experience in all three offices have allowed it to achieve top-of-industry results over many years.

The Career Development Fellow will work with each of the three Career Development offices on a broad range of interesting and challenging work. This position offers hands-on student services experience and the ability to develop deep knowledge of the range of legal careers. This position will be valuable for individuals considering the possibility of law school, a career in higher education student services work, or a career in legal recruiting.

Specific duties of this position include:

Assist in communicating with and cultivating strong relationships with legal employers.
Assist in planning and executing events, including interview programs and multi-employer events.
Assist with outreach to and correspondence with students and employers.
Help collect and analyze employment outcomes and office performance data.
Assist with implementing legal technology solutions.
Develop and maintain employment resources for students and graduates of the Law School.
Assist with office projects and programs, as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree.
At least one year of work experience, which may include college employment, summer jobs, internships, volunteer experiences, work-study, and externships. (May 2025 graduates with enough experience are encouraged to apply).
Excellent interpersonal, project management, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail.
The ability to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
Positive, collaborative attitude.
Client-service mindset and the ability to support and connect well with a diverse community of students, graduates, faculty, and colleagues.
Experience with MS suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

Facility for and ability to learn other computer programs and applications.

This is a full-time University Managerial and Professional Staff position with benefits.

This position requires most work to be performed in person at the Law School, with the opportunity to perform a limited amount of work remotely in accordance with Law School policy.
